BT adds further 500 employees as it aims for customer call target
Recruitment drive will total 1,500 new staff by March this year
BT has announced it will be recruiting for 500 additional jobs in customer service throughout the UK and Ireland.
The new roles are in addition to a target of 1,000 to be filled by March this year.
BT said the recruitment drive to add a total of 1,500 new staff members is to meet a commitment of being able to answer more than 90 per cent of customer calls throughout the UK by the same set date.
The majority of these additional positions will be based in customer care for BT’s Consumer division.
Contact centres receiving the new staff will be located in Swansea, Warrington, Doncaster and Accrington. The remainder will be spread across various other locations throughout the UK.
Existing BT employees are also being incentivised to attract others to the new roles. Those who refer friends can receive a £500 recommendation bonus once their referral completes six months in their role.
BT Consumer managing director of customer care Libby Barr said: “BT is completely changing the way we serve our customers in order to boost our service levels.
“We are going to answer 90 per cent of our customers’ calls in the UK and Ireland by the end of March, and we have been taking on great people to fill full time jobs working for BT. In fact, we will be recruiting for an extra 500 positions, which will be a dramatic increase in what we said we’d do.
“We can offer the chance to join a business that is transforming its service and investing in brilliant and motivated people in the UK and Ireland. There are opportunities to earn £500 by referring a friend and also openings for agency advisors who want to work for BT directly.”
