EE named UK’s top network and best business mobile provider
An independent report ranking British mobile operators has named EE as the country’s top network and the company offering best mobile plans for business. The survey, carried out by testing firm RootMetrics, assessed a range of factors including coverage, reliability and speed, and found EE outscored more established rivals including O2, Three and Vodafone.
EE have invested heavily in infrastructure over the last year, doubling 4G capacity at more than 2500 sites around the country, a move which now means more of its customers make their calls over 4G networks than the older 3G system.
5G trials to begin next year
Meanwhile, the government has announced 3 cities will begin testing new 5G technology from the start of 2019. The trials, which will take place in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Coventry, will be managed by the West Midlands Combined Authorities and be restricted to buses, hospitals and emergency services, allowing users to transfer data at more than 100 times current speeds.
The development comes just two months after several mobile networks, including EE and Vodafone, began their own independent tests of the new technology and researchers – at King’s College London – successfully controlled a drone over the 5G network..
More companies scrapping legacy landlines in favour of VoIP
Following last month’s revelation – that ‘big four’ accountancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers is removing landlines from their offices – it seems like they’re not the only ones. An article on the BizTechMagazine website claims that for many modern businesses – in need of a robust communications platform – VoIP is now the natural choice.
The high costs of setting up a Private Branch Exchange (PBX) – a key requisite for any company doing it’s work on the phone – mean startups, scaleups and businesses relocating to new premises are all opting for VoIP, rather than traditional phone systems and saving themselves thousands of pounds at the same time.
